Advice You Didn’t Ask For: Read The War of Art

The War of Art by Steven Pressfield is an amazing book.

Have you ever felt like you just couldn’t get anything done? Like you were just floating from one distraction to another. Phone calls, emails back and forth, up and down. Don’t mistake movement for work. Just because you are running around like a chicken with it’s head cut off doesn’t mean you are truly making headway.

Have you ever left work feeling unfulfilled, looking for distractions (alcohol, drugs, self-dramatization, etc.) to trick your mind into thinking it’s alright?

The War of Art does a spectacular job of articulating a slippery point called “Resistance.” This force does all that it can to prevent you from being and doing what you want. Now this sounds a bit hippieish, but I’ve read many books on motivation, distraction reduction and to-do list making. But this book opens up the core of this framework, below the conscious activity and it will pull back the curtain on your soul.

And that’s why you need to read it. Plus it’s short, inexpensive and to the point.

PS. It extends far beyond art and creativity, it’s very applicable for anyone
